Introduction of the beach
Last Updated July 19, 2024
What is no beach?
"Hamanashi" is not the name of the pear variety, but the brand name of the pear produced in Yokohama city.
Yokohama agricultural cooperative registered trademark in 2015.
Producers who meet certain conditions are certified by the Yokohama Agricultural Cooperative Fruit Tree Department and produce and sell beachless beaches.
The main varieties are "Kosui" and "Hosui".
"Hamanashi" can hardly be purchased at supermarkets or fruit and vegetable stores.
This is because we do not ship the market and sell almost everything directly in gardens and other places.
For this reason, it is possible to taste fresh and delicious fruits that have been ripe on the tree and immediately after harvesting.
“Hamaless” cultivation farmers hold workshops and patrol study meetings in each district, strive to improve quality and acquire cultivation techniques, and strive not to be ashamed of the name “Hamaless”.
In addition, we are working to further establish the “Hamanai” brand by unifying standards and shipping containers.
History of "None Beach"
The history of pear making in Yokohama began when farmers from Kuroganecho, then Kohoku Ward, Shinyoshidacho, Kohoku-ku, and Shimoiidacho, Izumi Ward (Totsuka Ward) in 1948 began cultivating varieties such as Cho Juro, Asahi and Kikusui in 19Aoba Ward.
Before the war, some farmers cultivated pears in the northern part of Yokohama City, adjacent to the Tama River pear cultivation area in Kawasaki City, but due to food shortages during and after the war, orchards were returned to potato fields, etc. The pear garden has almost disappeared.
After that, from 1966 to 1968, a sightseeing orchard development project was implemented mainly in the Nakazato area, and producers and the government began to work on pear cultivation in cooperation. From Showa 46 to 1980, the development of pear gardens in Yokohama City was in full swing through a fruit park setting project aimed at fostering urban agriculture and securing recreational green spaces for citizens. As a result of this project, approximately 20 hectares of pear gardens, which are current mainstream varieties, such as Hosui, Kosui, Shinsui and Kikusui, have been created in paddy fields on the Onda River and Tanimoto Rivers in Midori Ward and Aoba Ward.
And by the Yokohama City Tourism and Agriculture Promotion Project, which began in 1981, the creation of pear gardens has spread throughout the city and has continued to this day.
In 1985, it was selected as one of Kanagawa's top 100 specialty products.
At the beginning of pear making, there was little recognition as "no beach", and farmers seemed to have had a hard time selling.
He advertised as much as possible, such as signboards, newspaper flyers, and distributing leaflets, and some of them ran mini SLs in pear gardens to promote PR and attract customers.
At present, the taste of harvesting after being fully ripe on the tree, the freshness of selling the fruits harvested on the morning of the day directly on the day, and the high quality of large balls and high sugar content are evaluated. It is so popular that the production cannot keep up with the growing demand.
In addition, there is the rarity of "fruits from Yokohama city", and the number of cases used as gifts for sending to rural areas and souvenirs to hometowns is increasing, making it difficult to obtain.
Main varieties of "Hama no Nashi"
Kosui (Kosui)
He is the representative player of the current Japanese pear.
In Yokohama, it is an early-growing pear that is harvested around mid-August.
The color of the fruit is yellowish brown, which contains green on the pericarp. The sugar content rises to around 13% and the sweetness is strong.
It is a variety that has almost no acidity and is received by everyone.
The pulp is a lot of juice, whitish, fine and soft meat quality.
The size of the fruit is about 300 grams.
The leaves are weaker than other varieties, and the leaf color is thin.
In addition, it is a difficult variety to grow, such as cracking occurs mainly in the buttocks of the fruit in mid-July.
In Yokohama City, it is the main variety after Hosui, but the yield is slightly lower (2.5 to 3.0 tons per 10 ares).
Hosui (Hosui)
It is the most made in Yokohama. It boasts the size and taste of the fruit.
Middle-aged varieties harvested from the end of August to the middle of September. The color of the fruit is reddish brown, so-called red pear.
The sugar content, which is a measure of sweetness, rises to around 13%, has sufficient sweetness, but it also has a moderate acidity.
The flesh is soft and has a lot of water.
The fruit is larger than Kosui, more than 400 grams.
It has a relatively high yield (3.5 to 4.0 tons per 10 ares) and is the most produced variety in the city.
If you do not ripen on the tree, the sourness will not be lost, and the meat quality is soft and delicate, so it can be said that it is a variety suitable for direct sales.
