| Submission of written opinion | Gidai No. 4 bill (PDF: 185KB) | Submission of a written opinion calling for careful handling when discussing security-related bills | On May 15, this year, the government submitted a peace and security legislation to the Diet on the premise of constitutional interpretation that allows the exercise of the right to collective self-defense, and the International Peace Support Bill, which is a new law concerning cooperation support activities for the military and other countries. These bills have been considered within the government to address the complex and changing national security challenges, to maintain Japan's peace and security, fulfill its existence, and to fulfill its national responsibility to protect the lives and property of its people. At present, not only the Diet discussing the bill, but also many discussions and opinions are exchanged on security issues. At the lower house constitutional review committee held on June 4, all witness constitutional scholars as interpretations of allowing the exercise of the right to collective self-defense and pointed out these bills as violating the Constitution. Therefore, in handling this security-related bill, the Government of Japan will provide sufficient and courteous explanations so as not to cause consideration and anxiety to each and every citizen, and to provide the best choice for the future of the Japanese people. It calls for careful and sufficient deliberation in the Diet so that they can be guided. | Rejection |
