68.Venus Solar Surface Progress Observation Monument (near Momijigaoka 9-1)
On December 9, 1874, the unusual phenomenon of Venus passing through the front of the sun occurred, and observation teams from all over the world were sent to Yokohama, Kobe and Nagasaki to observe Japan because Japan was optimal for its observation. The Mexican Corps, Francisco D. Cobalu Bierce, was the captain of Yokohama.
At that time, Japan was still in the midst of chaos, even after the Meiji Restoration. It was around the time when political and business people were attacked, a Tondenhei system that both agriculture and defense was established in Hokkaido, and "Kappore" was popular in the streets (Chimata).
In the natural sciences, there is only astronomical world with a history from BC, and it is surprising that global research has already been developed since this era. This monument was erected in 1974 to commemorate the 100th anniversary.
