If the trees are not pleased, there is no garden.

Mr. Arakawa strives to have a watermark (pruning) that will make the trees happy and lively.

"A good garden is a garden where you will forget its existence in front of the garden," he says, and is working on creating a garden where the life and thoughts of the client and creator are projected.

Since 1999, "Kirigaoka Ryokusha" has been launched locally, recruiting participants from the community, and providing guidance on general landscaping and conducting local activities.

In addition, we are focusing on training young technicians, such as serving as a lecturer at the Kanagawa Landscaping Industry Association Certified Training School.

Meister's skill

The work of Akio Arakawa Meister

Inheriting the traditional Japanese gardening technique, flexibly adopting new techniques that respond to the changing times, searching for commonalities between gardens and Japanese gardens in other countries, and actively adopting excellent points.

In addition, Arakawa's characteristic of garden making is how to use stones.

Utilizing the experience of training in Kansai and visiting shrines and temples in Japan and archeological sites around the world, it is fusion with ancient stone masonry in other countries such as traditional Japanese masonry and Pure Inca, the Maya in Mexico, and the Roman Empire in the Mediterranean Sea. We pursue harmony between natural stones and different stones such as processed stones.

Profile

Works by Akio Arakawa Meister

Although I entered a commercial high school at the recommendation of my parents, I feel that a craftsman who uses everything to build something from nothing is better than bookkeeping or abacus.

In the local area, there are many gardeners who enter and leave mansions since the Edo period, and they advance to the world of nature and landscaping.

While studying at university, he spent his vacation to study in Kyoto. After graduating from university, he studied under a gardener and trained in Machiya's garden and tea garden gardens.

In addition, he trained in Kyoto style garden in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. He returned to Yokohama at the age of 35 and founded the garden construction Arakawa.

In addition to working on the construction of Ueno Kanei-ji Temple, Shinyo-in Temple, Genryu-in Temple, Shunsei-in Temple, etc., he was involved in the restoration of Sojijiji Sho-anji Temple in 2004.
