Q

What is the direct payment system for childbirth and childcare?

Last Updated March 17, 2023

National Health Insurance
A

This is a system in which the delivery facility on behalf of the householder performs the procedure for claiming and receiving the lump-sum payment for childbirth and childcare performed by the head of the household by contracting at the delivery facility where the child gives birth. Since the lump-sum payment for childbirth is paid directly to the delivery facility, payment of 500,000 yen (488,000 yen if not covered by the obstetric medical care compensation system) is not required at the time of discharge. .
If the delivery cost is less than 500,000 yen, or if you give birth at a delivery facility that is not covered by the Obstetrics and Medical Care Compensation System, the difference will be paid by applying to the ward office Insurance and Pension Division in your ward.
Please contact the delivery facility directly to see if the delivery facility you are planning to give birth supports the direct payment system.

※¥ 420,000 for births before March 31, 2023 (¥ 408,000 if not covered by the Obstetrics and Medical Care Compensation System)

Those who are eligible

・Those who have taken out Yokohama City National Health Insurance as of the date of childbirth

※ If you give birth to a company within six months after Retirement, you will receive a lump-sum payment for childbirth and childcare from the previously enrolled employee health insurance (only if you have been working for the company for at least one year). Depending on the employee health insurance, the amount paid may be higher than the National Health Insurance due to its own additional benefits. If you are eligible, please check with the employee health insurance you had previously subscribed to (if paid by employee health insurance, you will not be paid by the National Health Insurance).
