What is the exemption from National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin) premiums before and after childbirth?

A

In order to support the development of the next generation, if National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin) No. 1 insured gives birth, National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin) premiums will be exempted for a certain period before and after childbirth.

Those who are eligible

National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin) No. 1 insured person whose expected or expected birth date is February 1, 2019 or later

Period during which premiums are exempted

Insurance premiums are exempted for 4 months from the month before the expected date of birth or the month to which the birth date belongs (in the case of multiple pregnancy, from 3 months to 6 months before the expected birth date or the month to which the birth date belongs).
※Birth refers to births (including stillbirths, miscarriages, and premature births) of 85 days or more (4 months) of pregnancy.

Procedures

You can apply 6 months before the expected date of birth.

●Handling of maternity exemption period
・The period recognized as the maternity exemption period will be treated as the premium payment period when calculating the insured pension in the future.
・During the pre- and post-natal exemption period, additional premiums can be paid and priority over other exemptions and grace systems.
・If you are a voluntary member of the National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin), you will not be entitled to a premium exemption for prenatal and postnatal periods as well as other exemptions and graces.
