When a National Health Insurance member gives birth, a lump-sum childcare lump sum is paid.
500,000 yen (420,000 yen for births before March 31, 2023)
<Note 1> If you are pregnant for more than 12 weeks, you will be paid in case of stillbirths or miscarriage.
<Note 2> If you give birth within 6 months after Retirement, you will receive a lump-sum payment for childbirth and childcare from the previously enrolled employee health insurance. Depending on the employee health insurance, the amount of additional benefits may be paid more than the National Health Insurance. If you are eligible, please check with your previously enrolled employee health insurance (if paid by employee health insurance, you will not be paid by the National Health Insurance).
How to apply for a lump-sum childcare lump sum
1.Direct payment system for childbirth and childcare
This is a system in which the delivery institution performs the procedure for requesting and receiving the lump-sum childcare lump sum performed by the head of the household by making a contract at the delivery facility where the child gives birth. Since the lump-sum childcare lump sum is paid directly to the delivery facility, 500,000 yen (488,000 yen if not covered by the obstetric medical care compensation system) does not require payment at the time of discharge.
If the childbirth cost is less than the lump-sum childcare lump sum (500,000 yen), or if you give birth at a delivery facility that is not covered by the obstetric medical care compensation system, apply to the ward office Insurance and Pension Division of your ward. , The difference will be paid.
※420,000 yen for births before March 31, 2023 (408,000 yen if not covered by the obstetric medical care compensation system)
Please contact the delivery facility directly to see if the delivery facility you are planning to give birth supports the direct payment system.
Necessary items for application at the time of payment of the difference

- Documents certifying delivery costs (receipts and statements) issued by the delivery facility
- Agreements signed by the delivery facility (with a statement stating that "the direct payment system")

2.Proxy system for receiving lump-sum payment for childbirth
If you are planning to give birth, prepare a nationally designated application at the delivery facility that implements the agency system, and then apply to the ward office Insurance and Pension Division of your ward within two months before the expected date of childbirth. This is a system in which lump sum payment is entrusted to the delivery facility.
Since the National Health Insurance will provide a lump-sum payment for childbirth and childcare directly to the delivery facility, 500,000 yen of the childbirth cost (488,000 yen if not covered by the obstetric medical care compensation system) will be paid at the time of discharge. No payment is required.
If the delivery cost is less than the lump-sum childcare lump sum (500,000 yen), or if the child is born at a delivery facility that is not covered by the obstetric medical care compensation system, the difference will be paid.

3.When applying directly to the ward office
Please note that the application for the lump-sum childcare lump-sum payment will be made from the day after the birth date, and the application for overseas medical expenses will expire two years from the day after the full payment of the treatment fee, and you will not be able to apply for each.
In the case of childbirth in Japan
Please bring the following and apply to the ward office Insurance and Pension Division of your ward.

In the case of birth overseas
Those who gave birth have Address in Yokohama City, and that they have taken out Yokohama's National Health Insurance on the day of birth.
Please bring the following and apply to the ward office Insurance and Pension Division of your ward.
- Insurance card
- A bank account or bank transfer destination can be confirmed
- Letter of consent form (available at the ward office.)
- Documents proving the fact that the child was born (certificate of a doctor, etc.) Please attach a Japanese translation.) ※2
- Original passport (passport) of the person receiving treatment
※1 private seal (the name of the householder who uses vermilion) is required when transferring to an account other than the head of household.
※2 This can be omitted if you have already submitted birth registration form and your child is already listed in resident certificate.
※Caution※
If you have stayed abroad for a long period of time, you may fall under the National Health Insurance requirement and may lose your qualification retroactively. You will be eligible for temporary births during the trip. If you give birth overseas, you may be asked to check with your local medical institution about the application details, so please fill out the consent form of the person who gave birth. Please apply for a lump-sum childcare lump sum from an insured person who is currently overseas after returning to Japan. In addition, we do not transfer money from Yokohama.
Application for payment of overseas medical expenses
In the case of childbirth, normal delivery is not covered by insurance, so you will have to pay at your own expense. You may be able to refund as overseas medical expenses by applying to the ward office Insurance and Pension Division of your ward after returning.

Announcement of Obstetrics Medical Compensation System
This system is a compensation system for children with cerebral palsy associated with delivery of more than 22 weeks of pregnancy, and is joined by hospitals, clinics and midwives so that pregnant women can give birth with peace of mind.
