Creation of Yokohama Decarbonization Innovation

Last Updated November 12, 2024

In order to realize a decarbonized society by 2050, steady measures are needed, mainly in the coastal area of Yokohama, which emits approximately 40% of the greenhouse gases in Yokohama City.
The Yokohama coastal area is home to economic activities in the Tokyo metropolitan area, energy-related industries that support citizens' lives, manufacturing industries, research institutions, etc. It is characterized by good access both inside and outside Yokohama Port.
In addition, energy-related industries have high potential to become supply and demand bases for next-generation energy such as hydrogen in the future, and the development of cutting-edge decarbonization-related technologies is widely promoted, and there are many innovation bases that promote inter-firm collaboration, making it an area suitable for creating decarbonized innovation.
In order to promote decarbonization, we aim to form a large-scale base for the supply and demand of next-generation energy such as hydrogen by industry, academia and government, taking advantage of the potential of the coastal area of Yokohama City, and aim to create innovation by deepening cooperation for research and development of advanced technologies that contribute to decarbonization.

Yokohama Decarbonization Innovation Council

Based on the regional potential of Japan's decarbonization centering on the coastal area of Yokohama City, which plays a central role in the city's regional economy, we are working to establish a base for the import, manufacture, and supply of next-generation energy such as hydrogen, ammonia, synthetic methane, and synthetic fuels that contribute to decarbonization, as well as cooperation with local companies aiming for pioneering use of next-generation energy and research and technology and development.
