Last Updated September 5, 2022
In order to stabilize electricity and improve disaster prevention capabilities in anticipation of the spread of renewable energy, Yokohama City has installed storage batteries at public facilities such as elementary and junior high schools designated by evacuation shelter since fiscal 2016, and is developing a virtual power plant construction business.
This initiative is positioned as one of the implementations of the YSCP demonstration project.
What is a virtual power plant?

Yokohama City's VPP Construction Project
Yokohama-type VPP
In the event of a disaster, storage batteries will be installed at disaster prevention bases and public facilities such as evacuation sites, and in addition to operating VPP during normal times, it will be used as "disaster prevention power" in the event of an emergency accompanied by a power outage. This is positioned as the Yokohama VPP.
In normal times, the effects of VPP contribute to a society that uses electricity better, which the government aims to achieve, and in an emergency, it contributes to the improvement of disaster prevention in the region by using it as a "power source for disaster prevention."
