Demonstration project on the city supply of electricity derived from renewable energy power generation by partner local governments

Last Updated July 1, 2024

Overview of this project

Yokohama City has concluded a partnership agreement with 16 municipalities, which have abundant renewable energy resources, as part of its efforts to realize "Zero Carbon Yokohama" decarbonization by 2050.
In order to promote initiatives, based on a partnership agreement with Machi Mirai Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Machi Mirai Manufacturing Co., Ltd.), a demonstration project to supply electricity from a renewable energy power plant located in a partner local government to Yokohama City was launched in December 2020.

In this project, a retail electricity company that supplies electricity to consumers is determined by a bidding method, and a part of the electricity cost is returned to the local government where the power supply is located as a regional revitalization fund, and how to use it is This is the first model in Japan determined in consultation with local governments, etc. (For details, see the press release).

About the future factory

Machi Mirai Seisakusho Co., Ltd. is a group of local business producers whose business purpose is to "open up the future of the town". Planning, launch and operation of regional-led local businesses that utilize local resources (nature, funds, energy, people, wisdom), such as local new electric power, disaster prevention infrastructure, and vacant house town and road projects to become independent and continue. We support regional revitalization.
This initiative is based on the “Proposal that will lead to the promotion of collaborative agreements through the use of renewable energy in 13 municipalities in Tohoku and Yokohama City”, which the city is recruiting at the theme-type co-creation front. Because we had you suggest, we concluded cooperation agreement and carried out.
Specifically, please see homepage (outside site) of town future factory.

e. CYCLE ※About it

“e.CYCLE” is based on the request of the local government where the renewable energy power plant is located, with the support of the power plant that wishes to revitalize the region, and then sells renewable energy with top priority to local new electric power to promote “local production for local consumption” of renewable energy. The surplus electricity is allocated and operated to "export to cities". The investment profit is a regional circulation symbiosis area model in which local governments return to local communities in consultation with local governments and invest in solving regional issues.
For "e.CYCLE", please see the homepage (outside site) of Machi Mirai Seisakusho Co., Ltd.
 [Effect]
 (1) Society: Promotion of a decarbonized society
Contribute to consensus building by building a symbiotic relationship between renewable energy generation and local communities. It will support the introduction of large amounts of renewable energy.
 (2) Local: Continued regional revitalization
Continued dissemination of local brands through the sale of renewable energy, and acquisition of regional revitalization funds through power operation.
 (3) Local: Local production for local consumption
Consolidate large-scale renewable energy and small-scale distributed renewable energy, making it easy to use for new local electric power.
 (4) City: RE100
Even in urban areas where there is little renewable potential, local renewable energy can be used under fair trade.

※e. CYCLE (Good Cycle) was renamed from Good Around in July 2022.

Cooperation Agreement on Renewable Energy

Yokohama City currently has a partnership agreement on renewable energy with 16 municipalities.
About cooperation agreement and approach based on cooperation agreement, please see page of cooperation agreement about renewable energy.

About the results of the first demonstration

We have started supplying renewable energy generated in Aizuwakamatsu City to seven businesses in Yokohama City.
The electricity supply amounted to 7 million kWh per year (estimated) including large-scale office buildings in Minato Mirai 21.
For more information, please refer to the press release.

About the results of the second demonstration

In the second offer, we had 18 companies in the city switch to renewable energy electricity.
For more information, please refer to the press release.

Utilization of Regional Revitalization Funds

Regional revitalization funds returned from Yokohama City to the area where the power plant is located are being used for various projects.
