In Preservation and Research Center, City of Yokohama, we have been raising Oriental Greenfinch since fiscal 2021, in cooperation with the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums Ogasawara Oriental Greenfinch's conservation activities.
Ogasawara Oriental Greenfinch is a type of Oriental Greenfinch that lives only in the Ogasawara Islands, and is in danger of extinction due to the deterioration of its habitat. As a local protection measure, breeding projects are planned to be carried out under breeding to return to the wild. Although the breeding technology of Oriental Greenfinch was first cultivated in the Ueno Zoo in the 1970s, it has not been systematically established, and the affiliated facilities of the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums, including Preservation and Research Center, City of Yokohama, are working together to establish breeding technology for Oriental Greenfinch.
In Preservation and Research Center, City of Yokohama, Oriental Greenfinch breeding began in September 2021, pairing was conducted in April 2022, and breeding behavior was confirmed soon, and on June 17, 2022, two chicks safely nested.
