Since fiscal 2021, Preservation and Research Center, City of Yokohama has been cooperating with the conservation activities of the Ogasawara Oriental Greenfinch, which has been undertaken by the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (Oriental Greenfinch).
Ogasawara Oriental Greenfinch is a type of Oriental Greenfinch that lives only in the Ogasawara Islands, and is in danger of extinction due to deterioration of its habitat. Although breeding technology for Oriental Greenfinch was first breeding at Ueno Zoo in the 1970s, it has not been systematically established. Therefore, Preservation and Research Center, City of Yokohama and other Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums member facilities are working together to establish a breeding technology for breeding Oriental Greenfinch species.
In Preservation and Research Center, City of Yokohama, Oriental Greenfinch began breeding in September 2021 and pairing was carried out in April 2022.
