What's new! Nishi Ward Tekutekuteku: The 50th Yokohama Takashimaya

Immediately after the end of the war, Yokohama-sta.-nishiguchi was said to be a place for gravel and other materials, but when I was a child, I had never been there.
"Takashimaya Store" opened in West Exit in 1956 (Showa 31) along with "Yokohama Station Masterpiece Street". It is said that it was a great adventure that he was refused by other department stores. A large number of young shoppers gathered in the new and gorgeous shopping district.
Three years later, in 1959 (Showa 34), Yokohama Takashimaya, a four-story building (partly seven stories) was fully reopened. The exhibited products such as shy clothes and decorations were very attractive.
In 1973 (Showa 48), the store opened again. In the square beside the escalator at the back of the first floor, there was a fountain "Rose Fountain", which is now gone. There was no park or other places to rest in the rapidly developing Yokohama-sta.-nishiguchi, so the square was always crowded with resting guests. The fountain square was an oasis of West Exit.
