Illustration of Karuizawa Tumulus

There was a long time ago in Nishi Ward.
From the Asama Shimo Intersection near Yokohama-sta.-nishiguchi toward Mitsuzawa Park, follow the right sidewalk of the slope where a car runs. After passing the church, there is a cliff, and when you go up the steep stairs on the right side, there is a monument of "Tenkyo Ruins" between Kiki. Looking at the picture on the explanatory board, it seems that the tumulus was actually in a driving school a little further away.
Excavation was conducted in 1965 (Showa 40), and found to have been built in the first half of the seventh century. There is a horizontal hole type and a pit-type stone room, a total length of 26.5 meters, a height of 2.9 meters, and a three-tier mound. From inside, earrings, crystal cutter balls, iron swords, swords, swords, swords, glass beads, and Sue ware bottles were found.
Nishi Ward has a large shell mound from the Jomon period, and has been close to the sea since ancient times.
