Overview of Nishi Ward: Population and Characteristics

　In 1974, in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the constituency system, it was selected by open call for participants.
　Using braids as a motif, we designed the word "west" with the thought that the people of Nishi Ward would be tightly tied together with a single bond.

　Located in the center of Yokohama City, it is about half the size of the city's second smallest Minami Ward (12.65km2).

　　The number of employees is 981 (17th out of 18 wards).
　　Manufactured product shipments are approximately 17.7 billion yen (15th out of 18 wards).

　　Although it is the smallest of the 18 wards in terms of area and population, it is a ward where the “pre-established urban area area” that has left the history and downtown atmosphere since the opening of the port, and the “city center” such as the area around Yokohama Station and the Minato Mirai 21 area coexist.

　　One of the leading commercial and business areas in the Tokyo metropolitan area are concentrated in the Yokohama Station area and the Minato Mirai 21 area.

　　There are many cultural and artistic facilities such as Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall, Chuo-toshokan, Yokohama Noh-theater, Pref.Library, Kanagawa Pref. Concert Hall, Minato Mirai 21 and Yokohama Station area.

　　Many international conferences and large-scale events are held in the Yokohama Station area and the Minato Mirai 21 district.
