Illustration of Owariya Bridge

The Hamamatsucho intersection, where National Route 1 and Route 1 intersect, has a lot of car traffic.
To get to Kofuku-ji, cross the rare S-shaped Owariya Bridge that crosses the Tokaido Main Line, Yokosuka Line, and Sotetsu Main Lines and the Katabira River. There is a railway line right from the intersection, so it has an S-shaped curve.
Completed in 1929 (Showa 4) after the Great Kanto Earthquake. The bridge was named after "Owariya Nitta", which was reclaimed at the mouth of the middle of the Edo period.
The year after the bridge was completed, the streetcar Sengencho Line was opened, and the chinchinch train ran over the bridge.
I recall the leisurely scenery where nine streetcars running from Urafunecho to Rokukakubashi slowly travels along the steep curve of the bridge.
If it is clear, you can see Mount Fuji from the top of the bridge. Tram passengers would have enjoyed looking at the magnificent Mount Fuji from the window.
