What's new! Nishi Ward Tekutekuteku: The 47th Hamamatsucho Park

Hamamatsucho Park is located near the intersection in front of Nishi-Yokohama Station on the Sagami Railway Line. Under the cherry blossoms in full bloom, children and their families are playing well.
Immediately after the end of the war, when I was a child, there were no parks in the town, and I played begoma, menko, nail stabs, cans, and tag games on roads with few fields and cars. Since 1950 (Showa 25), parks have been established in the town one after another in Otani, Hamamatsucho, Kubocho, and Ikenoue.
In a corner of Hamamatsucho Park, there is a monument to the Nishitobe-cho Shioda Yokomakura Western Public Road Repair Memorial Monument, which was completed in May 1923, just before the Great Kanto Earthquake. In the past, Hamamatsucho was called Shiota, and there was Shiota, which was making salt.
It is said that the name of Hamamatsucho is derived from the pine that was planted in the past when Shiota was there. "My father was Shiota." When I was a child, I often climbed this monument and played." I am going to look into Shiota in Nishi Ward.
