Izumi Library Target List for Fiscal 2024
This year, Izumi Library will focus on the following targets: This list of goals is based on the basic policy and direction of initiatives of the "Yokohama City Library Vision", and also based on the "Yokohama City Medium-Term Plan", "Yokohama City Educational Promotion Basic Plan", "Reading Activity Promotion Goals" of each ward, etc. Has been formulated.

Basic Policy 1 Library for children who will lead the future
Direction of Initiatives: Create opportunities to expand the world of children.
Enhance books for children and books for child care
Efforts
- We will update handicraft-related books that are often used but have not been replaced. (20 books)
- For the first time, we will enhance picture books and picture books for parents and children, and renew the corner. (60 books)
- For children with special needs, we will promote the purchase of easy-to-read barrier-free books such as LL books. (20 books)
We will create an environment where both individuals and groups can spend time with peace of mind.
Efforts
We regularly patrol the hall so that children can spend time with peace of mind.
Please use the facility as a place to temporarily overcome the heat when you go out.
We provide experiences and play that can be enjoyed in various senses, such as touching and listening.

During the summer vacation, we will hold a workshop for elementary school students who create solar grasshoppers, etc. as "Library de YES". (July)

Enhance events and child care support services
Efforts
- We regularly hold talks for parents and children up to 3 years of age to introduce children's songs and picture books by library librarians.
- We plan improvement of "child care information corner" which we install in children's book floor.
We will send push-type information that actively communicates.
Efforts
In addition to permanently displaying books introduced at various talks and recommended books by librarians, we will always secure and provide multiple books for lending.
Direction of Initiatives: We support child, child care generation in connection with child care support facility and school, area and the connection.
We will respond to the needs of the child-rearing generation and provide services.
Efforts
As a "Spring Tokubetsu Storytelling Party", we will hold a storytelling party for parents and children from about 3 years old to lower grades of elementary school. (May)
Create opportunities for interaction with the same generation and other generations.
Efforts
We provide time and place where participants can interact at the end of the Children's Song Picture Book Association (Chick Storytelling Party) for children from 0 to 3 years old.
Actively connect with children's related facilities and communities to support children and child care.
On the first Saturday and second Sunday of each month, we will hold a talk session in cooperation with volunteers.
Support children's reading and learning together with the school library.
Efforts
- We will hold a workshop for school librarians.
- We dispatch instructors to courses for faculty and staff, lend books for class support, and provide references.
- We provide consultation on environmental improvement at the school library.
Basic Policy 2 Libraries for All Citizens
Direction of Initiatives: Ensure that everyone has access to knowledge and information
We will enhance materials and services to realize reading barrier-free.
Efforts
- With the cooperation of transliteration volunteers, face-to-face readings will be conducted at any time.
- We will promote the purchase of barrier-free books that can be read easily, such as LL books, for children with special needs. (20 books) (reposted)
- Replenish large print books that are increasingly used. (50 books)
We collect a wide range of books and enhance the collection in order to create opportunities to get acquainted with books and learn deeply.
Efforts
- We will collect the classic novels and basic books again in the complete collection. (100 books)
- Information Science Corner will be updated. (30 books)
- We will enhance materials related to dementia.
Connect books and information with people
Efforts
- When carrying out the project, related materials will be introduced and exhibited. (When each business is held)

Direction of Initiatives: It will be a base for experience, exchange, creation, and transmission.

- We repair and reuse damaged books in cooperation with book repair volunteers. (Full year)
- For elementary school students, we will hold a work experience to learn about the environment. (August)
While removing barriers, we will promote the creation of a system that will be a place where various people can meet, experience, interact and collaborate.

Group lending is provided to reading groups whose main activity places are facilities for the elderly and welfare facilities.
Basic Policy 3 Library for towns and communities
Direction of Initiatives: It will be a platform for community development where you can meet the appeal of the region.
We will create a unique library according to the characteristics of the region.
Efforts
- In cooperation with the ward office based on the Izumi Ward Reading Activity Promotion Goals, we will implement a reading activity promotion project that allows residents of the ward to enjoy books in their daily lives.
- As in the previous fiscal year, we will continue to purchase topographic maps and aerial photographs of the Izumi Ward and proceed with the collection in order to enhance regional materials and follow the geographical changes of the area.
Visitors to the library will learn about the charm of the area and become a base that connects with the town.
Efforts
- We will hold a picture-story show that talks about stories related to the local area in cooperation with local organizations. (November)
- Lectures will be given with a dementia care management instructor who is active in the community as a lecturer. (September)
It will be a place to create collaboration and co-creation and transmit local information.
Efforts
- The exhibition will be held in conjunction with the Yokohama Triennale. (May)
- In cooperation with Izumi Ward Health and Welfare Division, we will exhibit posters and books on health. (August)
- We will hold a panel exhibition in collaboration with Health and Social Welfare Bureau. (November)
- We will hold a panel exhibition in cooperation with the Green Environment Bureau. (December)
Direction of Initiatives: Collect knowledge and information on regions and towns, archive them, and connect them to the next generation.
Gather diverse knowledge and information possessed by citizens, organizations, companies, etc.

- We will hold the Izumi Ward Reading Activity Promotion Network Conference.
- As in the previous fiscal year, we will continue to purchase topographic maps and aerial photographs of the Izumi Ward and proceed with the collection in order to enhance regional materials and follow the geographical changes of the area.
We collect not only books but also information on the culture and memory of the city.

Basic Policy 4 Easy-to-use library services
Direction of Initiatives: Utilizing digital technology, we provide library services that can be used anytime, anywhere.
We will promote online use of procedures and references.
Efforts
- Provides a private commercial online database (12 types) that can be useful for references. It provides a Wi-Fi environment that can be used in the museum.
- We will make some online reservations for books that are not held in City Library (mutual loan reservations). (until March)
Direction of Initiatives: We aim to achieve both expansion of library functions and provision of library services in highly convenient locations.
We will proceed with redevelopment based on the aging of facilities and equipment.
Efforts
- The staff will patrol regularly, and repairs will be carried out as appropriate for places where aging is severe.
- Conduct maintenance and inspection (consignment) appropriately.
Direction of Initiatives: We will actively disseminate information.
Increase contact points with libraries by disseminating information using various information tools such as SNS.

Basic Policy 5 Libraries that change flexibly and remain attractive forever
Direction of Initiatives: Cooperate, collaborate, and co-create with various actors active in the community

Efforts
In cooperation with book repair volunteers, we repair damaged books and reuse books.
Direction of Initiatives: In order to support the ever-changing library, we will nurture and utilize the librarian, which is the strength of the city.
We will foster librarians who always challenge the creation of new library attractions.
Efforts
- We will promote human resource development to improve expertise, such as conducting training based on the “Librarian Human Resource Development Vision”.
- We will conduct workplace training centered on OJT to improve the skills of staff appointed for the fiscal year.
