Types of public pension, etc. Lump-sum payment for National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin)
Last Updated March 16, 2023
Lump-sum payments for National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin) include lump-sum payments for death and lump-sum payments for short-term foreign residents.
When a person who paid National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin) premiums for more than 36 months as the first insured person (including voluntary insured persons) died without receiving an old age pension or Disability Basic Pension, this is a lump-sum payment for survivors who had the same livelihood.
Also, if both the widow's pension and the lump-sum death payment apply, select one of them.
Claiming the lump-sum death payment
The range and ranking of those who can receive a lump sum death payment are as follows.
- Scope of bereaved families who can receive payment: Spouses, children, parents, grandchildren, grandparents or siblings who had the same livelihood at the time of the beneficiary's death.
- Ranking to receive payment: The order of 1.
The lump-sum payment amount is as follows, depending on the period during which the National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin) premium was paid.
Premium payment period | Lump-sum payments |
---|---|
36 months to less than 180 months | 120,000 yen |
180 months or more and less than 240 months | 145,000 yen |
240 months or more and less than 300 months | 170,000 yen |
300 months or more and less than 360 months | 220,000 yen |
360 months or more and less than 420 months | 270,000 yen |
420 months or more | 320,000 yen |
- The half payment period is treated as one half of the paid period.
- If you have paid the additional premium for more than 36 months, 8,500 yen will be added.
- If you can receive a survivor's basic pension due to death (including suspension of payment), no lump sum death payment will be paid.
The right to receive a lump-sum death payment expires after two years due to prescription.
