Types of Public pension

From October 2015, the mutual aid pension was unified to Employee Pension Plan (Kosei Nenkin) (outside site).
※Each mutual aid association (organization) will continue to provide pension benefits.

  6. Main procedures for those receiving pension

In order to receive old-age benefits from the public pension system, in principle, you must have a qualification period of 10 years or more.

About old-age pension
 Type of BenefitsExplanation
(1)Basic retirement pension

As a general rule, those who have a qualification period of 10 years or more will be paid from the age of 65. If you wish from the age of 60, you can receive it, but it will be reduced at a certain rate.

(2)Old age Employee Pension Plan (Kosei Nenkin)

As a general rule, it is paid from the age of 65.
(Depending on your date of birth, a special old age Employee Pension Plan (Kosei Nenkin) will be paid before the age of 65.)
※From fiscal 2007, if you wish, you will be able to receive the increased pension at a certain rate after the age of 65.

About disability pension
 Type of BenefitsExplanation
(1)Disability Basic Pension

It is paid if you get sick or injured before joining National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin) or before the age of 20, and you have a certain level of disability.

(2)Disability Employees' Pension

It is paid when a Employee Pension Plan (Kosei Nenkin) insured person becomes disabled due to illness or injury on first visit (Shoshin) Day.

Survivor's Pension
 Type of BenefitsExplanation
(1)Basic pension for bereaved family

When a member of National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin) or a person who qualifies for the basic age pension dies, it is paid to a spouse or child who has lived together.

(2)Survivors' Pension

It is paid to survivors who have the same livelihood.

About special disability benefit system

Special disability benefits

This is a welfare measure for persons with disabilities who were unable to receive Disability Basic Pension, etc. because they did not voluntarily join the National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin).

(1)Widow's pension

If a husband who qualifies for the basic age pension dies without pension, it will be paid to wives who have been married for more than 10 years between the ages of 60 and 65.

(2)Lump-sum payments for National Pension Plan (Kokumin Nenkin)

There are lump-sum payments and lump-sum withdrawals for short-term foreign residents.

(3)Unpaid pension

pension is paid to the bereaved family when pension is supposed to be paid to the deceased.
