Promoting Green Logistics at Yokohama Port

Last Updated December 20, 2023

Carbon dioxide emissions per transport (good)

In City of Yokohama, Port and Harbor Bureau, we are working to expand the domestic transportation network of marine containers through domestic feeder transportation, container barge transportation, and rail transportation.
These means of transportation are expected to be used to alleviate traffic congestion and to increase the use of green logistics with energy-saving effects.

Details of Green Logistics

Domestic transport feeder

Domestic vessels

Since transport by coastal feeder ships can transport a large amount of marine containers at once, CO2 emissions per ton are lower than trucks, making it an energy-saving and environmentally friendly transportation mode. Currently, domestic feeder transport is being carried out with the Pacific coasts of Hokkaido, Tohoku, Tokai and Kansai.

Container barge transportation

Container barge

Container barges (container-only barges) connecting Yokohama to Tokyo and Chiba at sea can transport a large amount of marine containers comparable to more than 80 trucks at a time.
In addition to reducing CO2 emissions per ton of transport through energy saving effects, it is also expected to reduce congestion on roads around the Tokyo metropolitan area and ports.

Rail transport

Rail transport

At Yokohama Port, we carry out railway transportation based on Yokohama Honmoku Station.
