Under the Yokohama Blue Carbon Offset System, blue carbon from eelgrasss that live in the park management area of Marine Park was quantified and certified as a credit in September of this year.
Until now, no standard blue carbon quantification method has been established for kelp and seaweed, so this time, blue carbon has been quantified using the city's unique method. As a result, Blue Carbon, seaweed cultivated in the sea of Yokohama, has been certified as carbon offset.
Blue carbon credits for kelp and seaweed is Japan's first initiative.
