Due to the partial revision of the Fire Service Law, this is a notification of the measures required after April 1, 2023.

Last Updated November 14, 2022

Target buildings

As of April 1, 2023, buildings that have already been equipped with the entire emission system of carbon dioxide fire extinguishing equipment are applicable.
For buildings that perform construction such as new construction, extension or renovation after April 1, 2023, "Technical standards for carbon dioxide fire extinguishing equipment have changed." (Effective on April 1, 2023).

※ Carbon dioxide fire extinguishing equipment: Inert gas fire extinguishing equipment, which uses carbon dioxide as a fire extinguisher.
※ Buildings that need to be installed based on Article 17 of the Fire Services Act are limited.

Necessary response

Adding technical standards for carbon dioxide fire extinguishing equipment with a whole emission system

  1. A closing valve that conforms to the standards set by the Commissioner of the Fire and Disaster Management Agency shall be provided in the collective pipe or operation pipe.
  2. When a person enters the protective compartment, the closing valve shall be closed, and in other cases, it shall be open.
  3. Provide signs that indicate the dangers of carbon dioxide, restrictions on access to protective areas, etc.
  4. When a person enters the protective section, the automatic manual switching device must be kept in a manual state.
  5. If a fire extinguisher is radiated, maintain it so that no one enters the protective compartment until the fire extinguisher is discharged.
  6. Provide a book near the control panel that specifies the structure, construction, maintenance, and measures for inspection.

※1 If there is no closing valve, it must be provided by March 31, 2024.
※2 The required standards vary depending on when the closing valve is installed.
