To those involved in buildings that have installed carbon dioxide fire extinguishing equipment

Due to the partial revision of the Fire Service Law, it is news of the measures required after April 1, 2023.

Last update date November 14, 2022

Eligible buildings

 As of April 1, 2023, buildings that have already installed carbon dioxide fire extinguishing equipment with the entire area release method are applicable.
 About building performing construction such as new construction, extension or remodeling after April 1, 2023, "technical standard of carbon dioxide fire extinguishing equipment has changed. (Effective April 1, 2023) Please refer to the following.


 ※ Carbon dioxide fire extinguishing equipment: Inert gas fire extinguishing equipment that uses carbon dioxide as a fire extinguishing agent.
 ※ Based on Article 17 of the Fire Services Act, it is limited to buildings that need to be installed.

Required response

Additional technical standards for carbon dioxide fire extinguishing equipment for the entire area release

  1. A closed valve that conforms to the standards set by the Fire and Disaster Management Agency shall be provided in the collective pipe or operation pipe.
  2. When a person enters the protective area, the closed valve shall be closed, and in other cases, open state.
  3. Provide signs indicating the danger of carbon dioxide and restrictions on access to protective parcels.
  4. When a person enters the protective area, the automatic manual switching device must be maintained in a manual state.
  5. If a fire extinguisher is radiated, maintain it so that no people enter the protective area until the fire extinguisher is discharged.
  6. A book must be provided near the control panel that specifies the structure of the equipment, construction, maintenance, and inspection measures.

※1 If the closure valve is not provided, it must be provided by March 31, 2024.
※2 The required criteria vary depending on the time when the closing valve is installed.

About inspection, result report of firefighting equipment

 Firefighting equipment (fire extinguisher, automatic fire alarm equipment, evacuation equipment, etc.) in buildings that have a carbon dioxide fire extinguishing system that emits the entire area must be inspected by a fire engineer or a fire equipment inspection qualified person. (From inspections carried out after April 1, 2023)

※ There is no change for buildings that are already required to be inspected by qualified persons, such as buildings with a total area of 1,000 m2 or more.

 The fire department will contact you about the installation status of the carbon dioxide fire extinguishing equipment with the entire area release method, and we may actually check the site. In that case, please cooperate.

  • Firefighters do not sell or replace fire-fighting equipment, so there is no charge at all.
  • When firefighters conduct on-site inspections, they always carry a firefighter ID card.
