Visited the "Wataru Nakayama Saburo Family" in Wakawa-cho

On Wednesday, November 29, we visited the "Wataru Nakayama Saburo House" in Wakawa-cho.
The Wataru Nakayama Saburo family has been engaged in liquor wholesalers and kimono fabrics since the Edo period, and in the Meiji era it was a large merchant that also engaged in soy sauce brewing and silk production. The existing storehouses and Shoin have been certified as "Yokohama City Certified Historic Buildings" and are preserved along with buildings such as Moromigura, Kojimuro, and Hachigogura. Until World War II, the garden at home was famous as the "Shorinpo" and the center of "Kawawa no Chrysanthemum", which is crowded with visitors of Kangiku in the fall.
At the storehouse, I saw valuable tools from the merchant era, and I was able to feel the state of Naka Yamaga's business at that time and the breath of people. At Shoin, I saw valuable books and historical materials, delicate decorations on indoor shojis and window frames, etc., and thought about the local history.
In addition, there was a relocated "Kawawa Nursery School" in a part of the land where the main house was once located, and I was impressed by the richness of the environment where children were brought up.

It was a very happy day to see how the cultural heritage that conveys the history of the region was carefully preserved and loved by the local people.
