CharacteristicsThe flowering season is around April, and fruits grow from late August to November. The pear is sometimes called "butter pear" or "butter fruit" because it has a chewy texture when eaten. Pear can be broadly divided into three types: "Chinese pears", "Western pears", and "Japanese pears", and originally originated in China. "Western pears" have been cultivated in Western Europe since BC, but came to Japan during the Edo period.
