About confirmation of fire ants in Yokohama Port

In the Yokohama Port survey of the National Port Survey (hereinafter referred to as the “National Port Survey”) conducted by the Ministry of the Environment every year, ants found on Thursday, July 27, and Friday, July 28, 2023, As a result of species identification by experts, it was identified as a fire ant, a specific alien species. This is the first discovery at Yokohama Port since October 2020. Insecticide bait (Bate agent) is installed around the confirmation point.

In cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment, etc., we will continue to conduct surveys and control mainly at locations where fire ants have been confirmed. The place where the ants were confirmed is in the container yard of the wharf, and is an area where ordinary people cannot enter. In addition, there was no human damage in this case.
