About Iwakawa Bridge on the Yokohama Line
This is a masonry bridge over the Yokohama Railway (currently JR Yokohama Line), which opened in 1908.
It spans the Iwakawa River flowing through Ibukino, and is said to be a bridge that is strong enough to withstand the Great Kanto Earthquake that occurred in 1923, and is recognized for its high technical capabilities of masonry.
It is one of the few stone masonry bridges that still exist more than 100 years after the opening of the Yokohama Railway, and is also regarded as a valuable modern civil engineering heritage.
