About Mochizuka
Before 1955, there was a small shrine on the mound of "mochizuka". The shrine has decayed, and local volunteers built the current monument in 1985. The stone monument is about 2m, with the letters "Tokaichiba District Land-Related Banrei Dai Memorial" on the front and "Mochizuka" on the side.
The name of this mochi mound is said to have been derived from the fact that an old woman sold rice cake beside the mound.
It is said that there was an execution site nearby, and the slope where sinners and others walked while crying to the execution site was called crying hill.
In the past, weeds were overgrown around the monument, rumors of curse were heard, and people were not approaching. Even now, when pruning trees are performed, a ritual of exorcism are performed.
Mochizuka is located in Uenohara Park, but there are cherry trees around the area, and in the spring when it is in full bloom, you can see a very good view.
