About Mochizuka
Before Showa 30 (1955), there was a small shrine on the mound of "Mochizuka". The shrine was decayed, and a local volunteer built the current stone monument in 1985. The stone monument is about 2m, with the words "Tokaichiba district land-related Manreidai memorial service" on the front and "Mochizuka" on the side.
It is said that the name of this mochi mound was derived from the fact that an old woman sold rice cakes beside the mound.
It is said that there was an execution site nearby, and the slope where sinners were said to have walked while crying to the execution site was called crying hill.
In the past, weeds were overgrown around the monument, rumors about curses were heard, and people were not approaching. Even now, when performing tree pruning, etc., we still perform a ritual of exorcism.
Mochizuka is located in Uenohara Park, but there are cherry trees around it, and you can see a very good view in spring when it is in full bloom.
