Introduction of Water Reclamation Centers
Last Updated January 11, 2024
The sewerage facilities in Yokohama City include the “Water Reclamation Center” that cleans domestic wastewater, a “Sludge Recycling Center” that recycles sludge, and a “Pumping Station” that relays domestic wastewater and drains rainwater into rivers and the sea. There are three main facilities.
Eleven facilities have been constructed over 23 years, including the Chubu Sewage Treatment Plant in 1962. The city is divided into nine according to the topography so that sewage can be easily collected, and the sewage in the city is cleaned.
In 2005, it was renamed from sewage treatment plant to water reclamation center.
The Sludge Recycling Center started operation in 1978 by the Southern Sludge Treatment Center, the first incineration facility in Yokohama City, and the Northern Sludge Treatment Center, which changed the treatment method to sludge consolidation treatment in 1987, started operation. In 1989, the southern sludge treatment center was changed to sludge consolidation treatment, and it has become a full-scale two-center system.
This was also renamed from the sludge treatment center to the sludge recycling center in 2005.
Since the Shimotani temporary pumping facility started operation as a rainwater pumping station in 1952, 12 relay pumping stations and 14 drainage pumping stations have been operating until the Kusu pumping station, which started operation in 2004. .
In addition, as a measure to prevent flooding of heavy rain in recent years, construction of reinforced pump stations is being promoted.
This leaflet introduces the water treatment mechanism at the Water Reclamation Center.
