About prevention of bird flu infection

Don't get close to birds! Don't touch it!

Avian influenza is an infection caused by the influenza virus that spreads from birds to birds.
Except in special cases, such as intimate contact with infected birds, it is usually not considered to be transmitted to humans. In addition, there have been no reports of bird flu transmission from wild birds to humans in Japan.
You don't have to worry too much in your daily life, but please note the following just in case.

  • Don't touch it directly if you find a weakened or dead bird.
  • If you touch it, wash your hands with soap immediately and disinfect it.

Avian influenza does not mean that chickens and birds bred at home or school are immediately dangerous.
Please breed birds appropriately and try to manage the health of the breeder.

Reference

Be careful when traveling abroad!

When you go abroad, you need to be careful not to approach wild birds, as there are areas where bird flu is occurring depending on the season.
For more information, see "For those who are traveling abroad."

What is Plateau avian influenza?

Infection of highland bird flu

  • Plateau bird flu refers to bird flu that is caused by a specific virus that has a high mortality rate of infected birds, and is transmitted directly from birds to birds or through water or excrement.
  • Basically, it is an infectious disease that spreads from birds to birds and usually does not infect humans. However, cases of infection to humans have been reported overseas due to close contact with infected birds (for example, inhaling powdered dung, touching the nose and mouth with a hand that touched the bird's dung or internal organs, etc.) Has been reported.
  • Very rarely, it has been reported that influenza-like symptoms (high fever of 38 ° C or higher, cough, etc.) and symptoms such as diarrhea occur. Systemic symptoms such as dyspnea and multiple organ failures may occur.
  • It has not been reported worldwide that humans eat chicken or eggs to be infected with bird flu.
  • Let's practice hand washing on a daily basis and try to manage your health.

Precautions for overseas travel

If you are traveling to a country or region where high plateau bird flu is prevalent, or if you are infected with humans, check the latest information on our website, etc., and sell live birds locally. Please be careful not to stop by or touch dead birds.

If you keep it properly, you don't have to worry more than you need.

Major symptoms (in the case of birds)

  • Suddenly lose appetite, or obviously lose energy.
  • Symptoms such as raising their wings upside down and nodding the neck.
  • Sometimes you may die suddenly.

Preventive measures

Prevention of breeding birds

  • Observe the health of birds on a daily basis and pay attention to the above symptoms. If you have any abnormal symptoms, please consult a veterinary clinic as soon as possible.
  • Clean the breeding hut regularly and dispose of excrement appropriately.
  • Do not allow wild birds to enter the breeding hut or drinking fountain from the outside.
  • Let's not go free.

Prevention of breeders

  • After touching birds and their excrement, be sure to wash your hands.
  • If you experience flu-like symptoms (high fever of 38 ° C or higher, cough, etc.), consult a medical institution as soon as possible.
