With the increase in the number of people coming and going abroad, the opportunities for infectious diseases to be brought into Japan are increasing.
Last Updated January 24, 2020
What is Imported Infectious Diseases?
There are many infectious diseases that do not occur in Japan or are rarely prevalent, but there are many infectious diseases that are resident and prevalent overseas.
(dysentery, typhoid, rabies, dengue fever, malaria, measles, etc.)
With the increase in overseas travelers and the development of international exchange, the number of reports of Japanese travelers and foreigners suspected to have been infected overseas is increasing.
In the future, further activation of international exchange and the holding of large-scale international events are expected to increase opportunities for infectious diseases to be brought into Japan, so it is important for each and every person to work on preventing their own infection and spreading to the surroundings.
Preventive measures
When going abroad
First, check in advance the information on infectious diseases that are prevalent at your destination.
There are also infectious diseases that can be prevented by vaccination or preventive oral medication.
Also, be careful about local meals and insect repellents.
