Disaster Prevention Measures in Yokohama City

Since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake that occurred in January 1995, the city has used this earthquake as a valuable lesson, and based on the belief that "the most important thing for the government is to ensure the safety of citizens' lives and property." We have reviewed earthquake countermeasures from a practical point of view.

The first review conducted in April 1995 was designated by the evacuation shelter. Since the same year, evacuation shelter established a stockpiling for disaster prevention equipment at elementary and junior high schools designated by the evacuation shelter, stockpiling equipment such as saws, bars, jacks and engine cutters, as well as food such as dry bread and canned water. By the end of FY2016, 459 locations were maintained.

In the event of a large-scale earthquake such as the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, together with the activities of fire brigade and rescue squads, disaster prevention activities, especially with the mutual cooperation of citizens living in the area are indispensable.

In the event of an emergency, preparation and training are required on a daily basis to be able to carry out effective activities. We always have the feeling of "protecting yourself with your own hands and protecting everyone's area together" and hope that you prepare for disasters on a regular basis.
