What is Decarbonization?

The issue of climate change is rare (cause of global warming)
Global warming means that gas called "greenhouse gases" trap the heat that tries to enter space from the earth, and the average temperature of the entire earth rises. In Japan, the average temperature is rising at a rate of about 1.35 ° C per 100 years.
Carbon dioxide, which accounts for the majority of greenhouse gases that cause global warming, is generated when fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas are burned.

Serious impacts of climate change
Extreme extreme weather events have been observed around the world, causing disasters such as strong typhoons, torrential rainfalls, heat waves and droughts, and many deaths and damage to crops are reported every year.
In Japan, large typhoons and torrential rainfalls have caused severe damage such as levee breaks and outflows of houses.

Future in which a 1.5°C rise has not been achieved (2100)
Global warming has been affected by global warming on a global scale, and the global average annual temperature in 2023 rose by 1.45°C, the highest in the history of observation.
It is said that if the average temperature rise, which is said to be able to reduce various risks to humans and natural ecosystems, should be kept within 1.5 ° C (compared to before the Industrial Revolution), it will fall into a crisis situation around the world.

Trends by Greenhouse Gas Emissions Division of Yokohama City (FY2021)

Situation of Yokohama City
In Yokohama City, the average annual temperature is on the rise, rising 1.9 ° C per 100 years. In addition, in 2023, the effects of global warming and the heat island phenomenon are evident, with the largest number of midsummer days, hot summer days, and tropical nights.
Greenhouse gas emissions (preliminary figures) in Yokohama city area in fiscal 2021 were 17.15 million tons, up about 3.7% from the previous year. Although it increased from fiscal 2020, which was greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, it decreased by 21% from fiscal 2013, and the overall trend has continued to decline.

Zero Carbon Yokohama
The city of Yokohama aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and realize a sustainable metropolis.
In cooperation with citizens and businesses, as well as various entities such as related organizations and countries, we will achieve a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and connect an irreplaceable global environment to children and the future. .
