What is decarbonization?

The problem of climate change is nothing wrong (cause of global warming)
Global warming refers to the fact that gas called "greenhouse gases" confines the heat that comes out from the earth into space, and the average temperature of the entire earth rises. In Japan, the average temperature is rising at about 1.35°C per 100 years.
Carbon dioxide, which accounts for the majority of the "greenhouse gases" that cause global warming, is generated when fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas.

Severe impacts of climate change
Extreme extreme extreme weather events have been observed around the world, causing strong typhoons, torrential rainfalls, heat waves and droughts, and numerous deaths and crops are reported every year.
In Japan, large typhoons and torrential rainfalls have caused major damage such as levee breaks and house runoffs.

Future in which 1.5°C has not been achieved (2100)
The effects of global warming are appearing on a global scale, and the global average annual temperature in 2023 has risen by 1.45°C, the highest ever in observation history.
It is said that if the average temperature rise, which is said to be able to reduce various risks for humans and natural ecosystems, must be kept within 1.5°C (compared to before the Industrial Revolution), it will fall into a crisis situation around the world.

Changes by Greenhouse Gas Emissions Division (FY2021)

Status of Yokohama City
In Yokohama, the average annual temperature is rising, and it has risen 1.9 ° C per 100 years. In 2023, the effects of global warming and the heat island phenomenon are imminent, with the largest number of midsummer days, intense heat, and tropical night days.
In fiscal 2021, greenhouse gas emissions (preliminary figures) in Yokohama city area increased by approximately 3.7% from the previous fiscal year to 17.15 million tons. Although it increased from FY2020, which was greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, it decreased by 21% from FY2013, and the overall trend has continued to decline.

Zero Carbon Yokohama
Yokohama City aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and to realize a sustainable metropolis.
In cooperation with various actors such as citizens and businesses, related organizations and countries, we will realize a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and connect the irreplaceable global environment to children and the future .
