About burn disease-For those who grow pears and apples

Last Updated October 2, 2023

About burn disease

Burial disease is a disease of plants caused by bacteria. It is widely transmitted to pears and apples, such as pears and apples, causing serious damage.
Since it does not occur in Japan, the import of host plant branches and fruits from overseas is prohibited, and we are strongly wary of invasion.
There is no effective control method for burns, and when infected, the entire tree may die.
Pollination work with pollen infected with burns can cause transmission.

Response to burns that occurred in China

On August 30, 2023, import of host plants (including pollen) from China, which had not been regarded as the outbreak country, was suspended.

Pollination work with pollen infected with burns can cause the disease to spread. Early detection and early control of this bacterium are important in order to prevent burns from entering and spreading and causing serious damage to agriculture. If you are using Chinese pollen, please cooperate in the following points.

(1)Do not use your Chinese pollen
(2)For gardens that may have used Chinese pollen, please cooperate with JA Yokohama Fruit Tree Department to investigate burns.
(Producers who are not members of JA Yokohama Fruit Tree Department, please contact the Yokohama City Agriculture Promotion Division directly.)

The suspension of import of host plants with burns and pathogens is to prevent plants from being infected with burns and is not for food hygiene.

Examples of symptoms due to burn disease

Flower rot, branch withering, torso, death, etc. due to invading pathogenic bacteria from vases and wounds. Symptoms like fire are characteristic
