Notes

  • During this time, the contents cannot be confirmed immediately after the reception, so it will be treated as custody. On or after the next opening date, family register officials will check the contents and if there are no defects, they will be accepted back to the date of acceptance and the date of submission of marriage registration form will be the "date of notification" stated in family register.
  • If the contents of the notification are incomplete, you may be asked to come back to the Hours to correct the contents of the notification. Therefore, please check in Hours before the submission date for any defects in the notification form.

When the certificate can be issued after the notification is accepted depends on the type of certificate (resident certificate, certificate of acceptance of each notification, certificate of all matters of family register) and the location of Address at the time of notification or the location of permanent domicile after notification (in Yokohama or outside Yokohama).

In marriage registration form, which requires inquiries to other municipalities or other institutions, if the contact information is closed and cannot be confirmed, it will be treated as custody.
The date of submission of the marriage registration form will be the “Notification Date” stated in family register.

The following is required to submit marriage registration form with foreign nationals:

  • A document or passport that proves the nationality of a foreign national
  • certificate to contract marriage

Notes

Depending on the nationality of the person you are married, whether you live in Japan or reside in your home country, you may need documents such as "birth certificate" and "Description" in addition to "Documents or Passport" and "certificate to contract marriage". Please let us know the details when making inquiries by phone or other means.

When married overseas

If you are married abroad, you will need to take steps to record the details with family register. Please prepare the following items.

  • marriage registration form (signature of marriage partner and witness are not required)
  • A copy of the marriage certificate issued by the official constitution of the country in which the marriage has been established (certified that the marriage has been established in a foreign manner) and a Japanese translation that clarifies the translator

Notes

The contents of a foreign marriage certificate differ depending on the country of marriage, such as the name and date of birth of the couple, the Address and the place of birth.
In Yokohama City, if the marriage certificate does not include the following, it is necessary to submit a document certifying nationality (or passport), a birth registration certificate, and a Japanese translation that clarifies the translator.
