Yokohama Port, as an international container strategic port, is promoting cooperation with each port, mainly in East Japan, to maintain and expand its core routes, and is actively engaged in collecting cargo from domestic ports by coastal vessels. Due to this effect, the number of containers handled in domestic trade in 2022 reached a record high of 350,000 TEU (Note).

On November 2, the Kiyoura Maru (approximately 111.62 m in length and 402 TEU), a coastal container ship completed by Suzuyo Shipping Co., Ltd. (head office: Shizuoka City) in October 2023, entered Yokohama Port Honmoku D4 Container Terminal for the first time and held a welcome ceremony.

The vessel is the largest domestic containership operated by Suzuyo Shipping Co., Ltd., and is scheduled to enter service on a route connecting Yokohama Port and Kobe Port. The launch of this service is expected to strengthen domestic container transportation and improve services to the main routes of Yokohama Port.

(Note) TEU: Number of containers converted at 20 feet
