Toward the realization of a carbon-neutral port! [First in Japan] Kanagawa University started a demonstration experiment of underwater solar power generation in the Minatomirai area.

　A research group led by Professor Akinori Yui of Kanagawa University (Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering) and the city of Yokohama will conduct Japan's first underwater solar panels in waters near Nippon-Maru Memorial Park, Minatomirai district, based on the "Agreement on Research on Modern and Advanced Issues in Coastal Areas, and Mutual Cooperation for Strengthening the Functions of Yokohama Port and Developing Human Resources" (concluded on December 24, December 24, 2020202020202020219).
　In the future, Kanagawa University's research group will make proposals for effective use of carbon neutrality in Tokyo Bay and other Japanese territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zones by utilizing the knowledge obtained from demonstration experiments.
