I ・ TOP Yokohama “Automatic Driving Project for Route Buses”-Japan’s first autonomous driving through remote monitoring and operation via commercial operation-

Yokohama City, Sotetsu Bus Co., Ltd., Gunma University, and Japan Mobility Co., Ltd. are promoting the “Route Bus Autonomous Driving Project” with the aim of realizing sustainable mobility services using autonomous driving technology as an initiative of “IT TOP Yokohama” to promote the creation of new businesses through IoT and other means.
As part of this project, during the “Autumn Satoyama Garden Festa”, the first demonstration test of autonomous driving by remote monitoring and operation will be conducted in Japan for the first time in Japan. This is based on the success of a similar demonstration experiment conducted on July 27 and 29, 2020. In addition, we will also operate a self-driving bus with a driver in the driver's seat for the second time since last fall.
Going forward, we will continue to verify various demonstration experiments, improve social receptivity, and strengthen the public transportation network, aiming for commercial operation based on autonomous driving Level 4.
Through the efforts of this project, Yokohama City will promote the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises and venture companies through open innovation, and promote the "Innovation City Yokohama".
