The Institute for Environmental Science conducts a survey of elementary school student (mainly fifth-year students) in Municipal Elementary Schools to report on creatures found nearby.
In fiscal 2024, 10,188 elementary school students from 164 schools responded and received valuable information that will contribute to the conservation Biodiversity in the future, including an increase in the confirmation rate of white herons and a significant decrease in the confirmation rate of crayfish in the United States.
The survey has been conducted since 2013, and the number of participating elementary school student has exceeded 120,000 in 12th year (*1). ※1: This survey was not conducted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
