Beware of suspicious visits, calls, and emails disguised as Water Works Bureau officials

We receive information about suspicious individual visiting homes and suspicious phone calls throughout Yokohama, pretending to be Water Works Bureau employees and contractorsWater Works Bureau officialsWater Works Bureau. There has also been information that suspicious emails have been sent.

Water Works Bureau doesn't do the following: Please be careful.
  • Investigation of pipes and water quality inspections without request
  • Repair and investigation of water pipes in the house, and billing for work
  • Door-to-door sales, rental and mediation of water purifiers
  • Notice of unpaid water charges and water outages by e-mail
If you have a visit regarding water supply, be sure to ask for your ID and confirm it.
Also, if you have any doubts, do not put them inside the house or make a contract or pay money immediately, and contact the Water Works Bureau Customer Service Center. If you receive a suspicious email, please delete it without opening the email.

Example 1 “Leakage Investigation” and “Pipping Survey”

"I was asked by Water Works Bureau and came to investigate the leak of an old water pipe."

Water Works Bureau does not conduct surveys on pipes, etc. that are not requested by customers.
(Except in the case of underground water leakage investigation by Administration Section, or in cases where information is made in advance.)

Example 2 “Water Quality Inspection”

There was a phone call saying Water Works Bureau and a contractor saying, "We have a glass of water prepared and conduct a water test." He put a machine in the water in the cup and said, "There is rust and the water quality is not good." He was recommended to clean the water pipe in the house and was presented with an estimate of the cost.

"This water is not good, so it's better to attach a water purifier." He was encouraged to purchase or lease a water purifier, and was presented with the amount.

Water Works Bureau does not conduct water quality inspections without customer requests. (except in the case of prior notice)
In addition, we do not sell, rent, or mediate water purifiers and water servers.
(* 1) The tap water turned pink due to the reaction of chlorine for disinfection and chemicals. It is not an abnormality in water quality.

Example 3 “Gathering”

"Water Works Bureau. This month, we will collect water bills in cash. "And visited and collected money.

In principle, Water Works Bureau does not collect fees for visits.
When visiting by collecting unpaid fees, we will notify you in advance by writing (news of water supply suspension, etc.).

Example 4 “Email”

Water Works Bureau does not provide "payment of unpaid water charges" or "notice of water cutoff" by e-mail.
If you receive a suspicious email, please delete it without opening the email.
If you accidentally access the link described in the e-mail, do not enter personal information or credit card information.
In addition, we have received consultations that we have accessed the link described in the suspicious email. If you accidentally enter personal information or credit card information at the link, please consult your credit card company and police immediately.

Example 5 “inspection / inspection” and “cleaning” of sewerage

"I was asked by Water Works Bureau and came to check the sewage trout."

Water Works Bureau does not visit sewage systems or drainage facilities.

For sewer construction that Yokohama-shi performs, when the staff of city and trust company ask for inspection and investigation in residential land, we show identification card.
If you feel suspicious, please contact the Public Works Office of each ward.

When visiting staff and business operators

The Water Works Bureau staff carries a staff card. When a contractor or contracted construction company visits by water meter reading or meter replacement, they carry a consignment certificate or identification card issued by Water Works Bureau.
