Park facility outline
The park's area is about 40 meters above sea level, after climbing the slope beside Okurayama Station in Toukyu Toyoko Line. It is divided into the Okurayama Memorial Hall and the Bairin district. The memorial hall is the building of the former Okura Institute for Spiritual and Cultural Studies, which is rare in Japan, and is a valuable building to preserve. About 1,000 plums are planted in the suribachi-shaped Umebayashi, which is widely used as a place for citizens to relax along with events and concerts using the gallery in the memorial hall. The park will begin with the public opening of the Okurayama Memorial Hall, which was originally built in the park. The predecessor of this memorial hall was built by businessman Kunihiko Okura in 1932 as an activity base for the Okura Institute of Mental and Cultural Studies. It is said to have been designed by Uheiji Nagano, a leading figure in classical architecture during the Taisho period. After the war, research activities declined, and in 1981 the building was donated to the city. The city acquired the land from the foundation, maintained its surroundings, and released it in 1959. Subsequently, the so-called Okurayama Bairin district developed by Tokyo Express Railway Co., Ltd., and released it as a district park in 1989.
