Harbor View Park (Minato-no-Mieru Oka Koen) (Naka Ward)
Last update date August 4, 2023
A park with a rose garden that spreads out against the backdrop of the Western-style building
A park that cannot be excluded from Yamate sightseeing courses in Yamate. The view of the port and Yokohama Bay Bridge spreading below from the observatory is the best.
This area was a foreign settlement at the time of opening the port, where the British army was stationed on the hill and the French army underneath.
After the requisition release, land was acquired as a park, such as receiving a free loan from state-owned land at the request of the local area. In the melody, it was opened as a scenic park with a tape cut by Mayor Hani, who could be said to be the creator of the park.
Since then, the France-Yama area on the site of the former French consulate, British House Yokohama, the British Consulate-General's residence, the Jiro Osaragi Memorial Museum in 1978, and the Museum of Modern Literature in 1984.
In the same year, the French Bridge connecting the doll house and France-Yama was opened in October 1986, the Kirifue Bridge connecting the Jiro Osaragi Memorial Museum and the Museum of Modern Literature, was opened under the design of Shizutaro Urabe.
In May 1991, 1,300 rose gardens of about 110 species were opened to the public to commemorate the establishment of roses, a flower of the city.
The greening work was completed on April 1, 2016, and the area that had been a rose garden has been reopened as <English Rose Garden>. With the theme of an English-style garden, which mainly focuses on planting roses against the backdrop of British House Yokohama, it will be a mixed-planted garden with annual grasses and vines. In addition, the sinking flower bed can enjoy the scent and color of roses, flowers and trees throughout the four seasons while taking advantage of the topography as a sinking flower bed as a <garden garden>.
