In 2023, Yokohama and Shanghai celebrated the 50th anniversary of the friendship city partnership.

Yokohama City and Shanghai have been connected by international routes for a long time, and various exchanges have been taking place, such as the visit of a Yokohama High School selected soccer team in 1966. In 1972, the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China was realized, and the momentum of exchange increased further. On November 30, 1973, the two cities declared a friendship city tie-up. This was Shanghai's first overseas friendship city tie-up.
Since then, for half a century, inter-city exchanges have been promoted, mainly by citizens, including the Friendship Committee. We hope that the 50th anniversary of the milestone will be further promoted, expand to new exchanges for future generations, and friendships will deepen further.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Yokohama Shanghai Friendship City Alliance, Chen Jie Deputy Mayor of Shanghai visited the beach, met with Mayor Yamanaka at the city hall, a welcome ceremony, and a "Shanghai Yokohama Friendship Garden" donated by Shanghai City. A commemorative tree planting was held at Honmoku Citizen Park.

We held an event to introduce Chinese and Shanghai culture, including the performance of traditional Chinese instruments, at the Shanghai Yokohama Friendship Garden in Honmoku Civic Park.

This is a Chinese Gangnam style garden and architecture donated by Shanghai City to Yokohama City in 1989 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Yokohama City Organization and the 130th anniversary of the opening of the port, this is a Chinese Gangnam style garden and architecture donated by Shanghai to Yokohama in 1989.
The bamboo gate at another entrance from Koshintei, which is named after the tree and flower haku magnolia in Shanghai, it is connected by a garden and a curved bridge, and is characterized by a hexagonal double roof. It is skillfully arranged in the pond, and the green and cliffs of Sankeien, which is the background create a unique atmosphere. In addition, it is lit up at night, and its beautiful appearance is reflected on the surface of the water.

Atrium on the 1st floor of Yokohama City Hall, we held an event where visitors can experience Shanghai and Chinese culture. At this event, Chinese musical instrument performances, classical dance, and Tai Chi performances were performed, and about 3,000 customers came. In addition, an introduction of the history of exchanges between the two cities so far, and a photo exhibition "Shanghai no Now" were held at the same time.
