At Minamihonmoku Wharf, one of Yokohama Port's main wharf, the port of call has been narrowed down due to the rapid increase in container handling volume at Asian ports and the further increase in size of containerships to pursue economies of scale, and the reorganization of alliances between shipping companies. In order to respond to the arrival of large vessels and the increasing cargo, we have developed a container terminal with a depth of 18m, the largest in Japan.
Yokohama Port Minamihonmoku Pier MC4 Container Terminal, as a continuous Bath with MC3, is provisionally in service on August 7, 2020 as a high-standard container terminal with a depth of 18m and a length of 900m that can accommodate the world's largest containerships.
The new management building, new gate, etc., which had been under construction, will be completed, and the MC4 container terminal will begin full-scale operation on April 1, 2021. As a result, MC1 to 4 will be able to use the entire facility as a container terminal with a depth of 16 to 18 m and a total length of 1,600 m.
In the future, by realizing a groundbreaking operation in which ships on various routes can flexibly use the entire facility according to ship type and schedule, we will be able to maximize the high-standard facility capacity and contribute to strengthening the international competitiveness of the Japanese economy by maintaining and expanding core routes and increasing the number of international transit cargo.
