At Minami-Honmaki Wharf, one of Yokohama Port's main wharfs, the rapid increase in container handling volumes at various ports in Asia, further enlarge containerships to pursue economies of scale, and reorganization of alliances between shipping companies. As the narrowing down, we have been developing Japan's largest and only container terminal equipped with earthquake-resistant quay with a depth of 18m.
Yokohama Port Minami-Honmaki Pier MC4 Container Terminal is a continuous berth with MC3, a high-standard container terminal with the largest water depth in Japan with a depth of 18 m and a length of 900 m that can handle the world's largest containership ship.
The new management building, new gate, etc., which were under construction, have been completed, and the MC4 container terminal will begin full-scale operation on April 1, 2021. As a result, MC1 to 4 can be used as a container terminal with a depth of 16-18m and a total length of 1,600m, making it possible to use the entire facility together.
In the future, by achieving groundbreaking operation that enables ships on various routes to flexibly use the entire facility according to the ship type and schedule, etc., it will be possible to maximize its high-standard facility capabilities and contribute to strengthening the international competitiveness of the Japanese economy by maintaining and expanding its core routes and increasing international trust cargo.
