The maintenance of the quay and yards of the Yokohama Port Minami-Honmaki Pier MC4 Container Terminal was almost completed at the end of July 2020, and provisional service will begin on August 7, this year.
Yokohama Port is one of Japan's leading ports handling about 80 million tons of foreign trade cargo and about 3 million TEUs (*) per year, and supports our lives.
At Minami-Honmaki Wharf, one of the main wharfs of Yokohama Port, Japan's largest wharfs, the situation changes, such as the size of container ships and reorganization of routes through cooperation between shipping companies. We have been developing a container terminal with an earthquake-resistant quay with a depth of 18m.
With the start of operation of MC4, MC3 and 4 will become a high-standard container terminal with the largest water depth in Japan, capable of handling the world's largest containership vessels. In addition, all MCs 1 to 4 terminals can be used in one unit. Epoch-making operation that allows ships on various routes to flexibly use the entire facility depending on the ship type, schedule, etc., and will be able to maximize the high-standard facility capabilities.
The operation of the entire facility, including the management building, is scheduled to begin around spring 2021.

(※) TEU: A unit of container handling volume converted to 20 feet (container length)
 A 20-foot container is calculated as 1TEU
