The maintenance of the quay and yard at Yokohama Port Minamihonmoku Pier MC4 container terminal will be completed at the end of July 2020, and will begin provisional operation on August 7, 2020.
Yokohama Port is one of Japan's leading ports handling approximately 80 million tons of foreign trade cargo and approximately 3 million TEU (*) containers annually, and supports our lives.
At Minamihonmoku Wharf, one of the main wharfs at Yokohama Port, the situation changes, such as the size of container ships and the reorganization of routes through cooperation between shipping companies, in order to respond to the arrival of large ships and the increasing cargo, We have been developing a container terminal with a 18m deep earthquake-resistant quay, the only one in Japan.
With the start of operation of MC4, MC3 and 4 will be the highest standard container terminal in Japan that can handle the world's largest containerships with a depth of 18m and a length of 900m continuous Bath. In addition, all terminals from MC1 to 4 can be used together. Ships on various routes will be able to flexibly use the entire facility according to the ship type and schedule, and will be able to maximize the high-standard facility capacity.
The operation of the entire facility, including the management building, is scheduled to begin around spring 2021.

(※) TEU: Unit of container handling volume converted to 20 feet (container length)
One 20-foot container is calculated as 1TEU.
