[Press Release] "Japanese Rock Ptarmigan" came to Preservation and Research Center, City of Yokohama.

In cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment and the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Preservation and Research Center, City of Yokohama has been raising Svalbard Rock Ptarmigan, a subspecies of Japanese Rock Ptarmigan since fiscal 2013, and has been conducting research on the Ex situ conservation habitat of grouses with researchers at zoos and universities in Japan. Furthermore, in March 2019, we introduced two Japanese Rock Ptarmigan birds to improve breeding techniques.
As part of the Ministry of the Environment's project to protect and proliferate grouse, we will introduce one male Japanese Rock Ptarmigan from the Nasu Animal Kingdom and work to breed Japanese Rock Ptarmigan in Preservation and Research Center, City of Yokohama.
