Yokohama has the sea, port, greenery, history, region, people, and various attractions. We will deliver the color of this town as "Yokohama Aya Discovery". This time it is from Yokohama Zoo ZOORASIA in Asahi Ward.

Yokohama Zoo ZOORASIA (outside site) was created in a corner of the Miho and Shinji districts, one of the seven major green bases established by Yokohama City to systematically perform green conservation. Opened in April 1999. In the "Nature Experience Forest" in the park, you can still enjoy the seasonal flowers and wild birds. In addition, Yokohama City has other Nogeyama Zoo and Kanazawa Zoo, and it is rare for Japan to have three zoos in the city.

The Yokohama Zoo ZOORASIA, whose main theme is "Coexistence of Life and Harmony with Nature", is divided into eight zones according to the climate zone and region of the world. It is a zoo where you can feel as if you were enjoying a world trip around the park. In Japan, we are also focusing on display and breeding rare animals such as tengu monkeys, Seth dikinoborikangaroo, and Dole, which can only be seen in ZOORASIA.

In the African Savanna Zone, which was fully opened in 2015, you can see carnivorous cheetah and herbivores giraffes, eland, and grant zebra in the same exhibition hall.
I often hear voices saying, "Can't you eat it?", But cheetah has the habit of not attack animals larger than he himself. Grant zebras, giraffes, and Elland, which are on display together are large herbivores and weigh many times more weight than cheetah. Because of these four types, we were able to exhibit in the same space. Citiators chasing grants zebras, citamas chasing conversely, herbivores that maintain an exquisite sense of distance…。 The relationship that can be seen only because different types of animals live together is new discoveries when observing them.

And at Yokohama Zoo ZOORASIA, we hold various events that everyone can enjoy. There are plenty of "special time for keepers", where the person in charge of holding it every day introduces animals happily, contact experiences at "Pikapaka Plaza", and seasonal events.
Night ZOORASIA, which began in 2001, is a popular summer event that can be said to be a summer tradition. Normally closed at 16:30, but on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays in August, the opening hours are extended to 20:30. The nature-rich park is lit up with illuminations, etc., and you can see the animals at night, which you can not usually see, such as the active figure of nocturnal animals and the sleeping of nctural animals. Guides and night bird shows are also held, and you can learn about the detailed ecology of the animals. And at hands-on events such as horse feeding experience and craft classes, you will be able to take home not only memories but also your own works.
ZOORASIA has been preparing for the Night ZOORASIA event a few months ago. Checking the lighting in the park, pruning work, developing special menus at restaurants, planning various events, and preparing illumination decorations.
In addition, an event called "ZOORASIA Night Festa" will be held at Korokoro Plaza. At the venue, food stalls and kitchen cars from various countries such as Hawaiian, Italian, and Asian food will appear. In the Quiz Rally, you can get a special image by going around 5 rally points and answering animal quizzes. On the special stage, "Let's sing together!" Concert will be held. You can sing with your singing sister and enjoy playing an unusual instrument called hand-operated organ.
