Preparing for a large-scale earthquake-preparation~

Last update date July 14, 2020

1.Preparation on a daily basis

In order to protect one's life in the event of a large-scale earthquake, it is important to prevent danger and reduce damage, to check safe places and evacuation destinations in advance, and to know evacuation methods.
On this page, we will introduce measures for each household to reduce damage.

In order to reduce damage

Let's check the earthquake resistance of your home

Illustration of a house

Collapse at home affects not only direct damage such as injuries, but also on subsequent life.
Make a seismic diagnosis at home and ask a professional contractor as soon as possible if you need to be earthquake-resistant.

Oh "Everyone can do earthquake-resistant diagnosis of my home" (outside site) (To the Japan Building Disaster Prevention Association page)
Oh (Housing and Architecture Bureau Building Disaster Prevention Section page)
Oh Subsidy for seismic diagnosis of condominiums (to the Housing and Architecture Bureau Building Disaster Prevention Section)

Let's reduce the danger in the house.

When a large shaking due to an earthquake occurs, large furniture and home appliances fall down, and the contents of cupboards and shelves with doors are scattered.
In addition, the window glass may be broken and scattered due to distortion due to large shaking.
These damages can not only cause injuries, but also hinder evacuation.

Check the measures in your home and reduce the damage.

Furniture fall prevention

Furniture measures are relatively easy and effective measures. You can purchase special equipment and install it on your own.
You can refer to the website of the Tokyo Fire Department to prevent furniture from falling.

Equipment mounting agency business

In Yokohama-shi, we perform installation of fall prevention equipment free of charge to support approach of furniture fall prevention measures.
For details, please refer to the General Affairs Bureau Crisis Management Department, Regional Disaster Prevention Section.

Measures to prevent glass from scattering

Broken window glass

The window glass is vulnerable to deformation due to the shaking of the earthquake and breaks quickly.
If the window glass breaks, the following injuries may occur.
 ・ The broken glass touches.
・ I'm injured by stepping on a piece of debris.
・ Cut off at the time of cleaning up
To prevent glass from scattering, apply a shatterproof film and take measures.
Also, be sure to close the curtains when you go to bed.

Let's protect your home and area from fire

Fire occurrences during a large-scale earthquake

Fire is one of the causes of great damage caused by the earthquake. In areas where wooden houses are densely populated, one fire spreads one after another, and damage can spread over a wide area.
More than 60% of the causes of fires in the past Great East Japan Earthquake (excluding unknown causes) are related to electricity, and most of them are "energized fires" that occur when power is resumed after a temporary power outage. Is caused.
In order to prevent this power-on fire, it is important to `` drop the breaker '' when leaving the house due to evacuation, etc., but when a large shaking occurs, it may not be possible to drop the breaker, such as when you are not at home Therefore, it is effective to install a "seismic breaker" in which the equipment automatically shuts off the breaker when a shaking of a certain size is detected.

In addition, even in the unlikely event of a fire, fire extinguishing activities by the residents until the fire department rushes can prevent the spread of fire.
Participate in local disaster drill on a daily basis and learn how to operate fire hydrants and stand pipes.

≪Seismic breaker installation assistance system≫

Yokohama City provides a subsidy program for the following areas within the Izumi Ward. (For details, please refer to the "Seismic breaker Installation Promotion" page of the General Affairs Bureau Regional Disaster Prevention Section.)

Areas subject to subsidies for seismic breakers
Target areas
Shirayuri 1-chome to 3-chome
Nakata Higashi 1-chome to 4-chome
Nakata Kita 2-chome to 3-chome
Nakata Nishi 2-chome to 4-chome
Minami Nakata 1-chome to 5-chome

Stockpiling to keep living at home

In the event of a disaster, it is possible that people who need what they need will not be able to reach those who need it due to the suspension of logistics or the occurrence of a purchase. Check what you need in the event of an earthquake, and prepare for at least three days of stockpiling on a daily basis.
The important thing in stockpiling is to use what you usually use in the event of a disaster. Let's stock up without waste by "rolling stock" that stocks while circulating what we use on a daily basis.

Points for food stockpiling

Rolling stock

An important thing in food stockpiling is to stock a large amount of "food that is stored on a daily basis." For example,

・Rice
・Dried noodles such as soba, pasta, and somemen
・Canned food
・Instant ramen
・Retort food (curry and pasta sauce)
・Serial and crackers
・Confectionery

Stock up on what you eat on a daily basis, such as what you eat on a daily basis, or that you can eat with simple cooking, so that there is always unopened surplus.
By doing so, you can eat what you usually eat in the event of a disaster, greatly reducing the burden on your mind and body.
Stock up on portable gas stove and water so that you can cook to some extent even in the event of a power outage or gas supply outage.

Other useful disaster prevention items

Cooler box

Cooler box

Refrigerator food can also be stockpiled in the event of a disaster by effectively utilizing it.
However, food in the refrigerator cannot be eaten due to a power outage, so use a cooler box to store it efficiently.
Putting a cold packer at the top, you can effectively cool.

Toothpaste sheet and liquid toothpaste

Liquid toothpaste

If the water outage occurs, you will not be able to brush your teeth. If you cannot brush your teeth, your mouth will become unsanitary and cause an infection.
Stock up on toothpaste sheets so that you can keep your mouth clean even if you cannot use water.
In addition to brushing your teeth, the toothpaste sheet can also be used to wipe out tableware after use when the water is cut off.

portable gas stove gas cylinder

portable gas stove

In the event of a disaster, it is expected that gas supply will stop and cook will not be possible. (In the case of a power outage at home with IH cooking heaters)
Cooking is essential to effectively consume stored dry noodles, instant noodles, and staff in the refrigerator.
In case of emergency, be sure to have portable gas stove and cassette gas so that you can cook.

Toilet pack

Toilet pack

If water is cut off due to shaking or the sewer pipe is damaged, the toilet will not be available.
Even in such a case, be sure to have a toilet pack (portable toilet) so that you can add it at home.
There are two types of toilet packs, such as diapers in plastic bags, and those that are sprinkled with a coagulant to harden them.
After use, it can be taken out as burning garbage. (Don't be confused with other garbage, let's put together only with toilet packs.)

Body wiping sheet

Wet tissue

Not being able to keep your body clean in the event of a disaster can lead to more stress than you might imagine.
Have a wet sheet for wiping your body and keep your body clean so that you can keep your mind and body healthy.
We recommend a large-format for nursing care that can wipe the whole body.

Wrap

Wrap

If water outage occurs, it is also important not to wash out.
Wrap a wrap around a plate at home and throw it away as garbage after eating.
If the dish breaks due to shaking, you can make paper tableware with a newspaper or flyer and cover it with a wrap or plastic bag to replace tableware.
(It is also effective to stock paper plates.)

Mobile battery

Mobile battery

Smartphones and mobile phones are indispensable as information collection tools in the event of a disaster.
On the other hand, in situations where the radio wave conditions are poor, even if the power is turned on, even if not in use, the power is turned on.
Carry your mobile battery on a daily basis so that you don't have to use it when you need it.
