Disaster Prevention Considered from Outdoor Disaster Prevention Program

What happens to our lives in the event of a disaster such as an earthquake?

In past disasters, the supply of electricity, water, and gas to each household was stopped due to damage to water pipes, gas pipes, and electrical equipment due to large shaking.
The outlook for when these supplies will be resumed cannot be predicted in advance before the disaster occurs, so it is important to consider in advance how to deal with electricity, gas, and water supply when electricity cannot be used.

When the electricity stops

If a power outage occurs, the following effects can be considered.

Impact of power outages
ImpactMeasures
The light doesn't turn on

Prepare battery-powered and battery-powered lights such as LED lanterns in advance. It's safe to have three rooms, a living room, a toilet, and a kitchen.
If not enough, refer to the program of "Lantern Making (PDF: 529KB)".

I can't collect information from TV

Let's use radio, smartphone, etc. It is safe to have a spare battery or charger in case the battery runs out.
You can also collect necessary information at evacuation shelter.

I can't use air conditioning equipment

When electricity is turned off, it becomes difficult to take measures against heat. Especially in summer, it is necessary to stock up a lot of drinking water so that it does not become dehydration.
In addition, we may be able to respond by creating a little shade and relieving the heat, so we can also use "blue sheet tarping (PDF: 629KB)" etc.
As a measure against the cold, prepare a portable gas stove at home so that you can make warm meals and drinks.

I can't cook

Food is an important factor in keeping you healthy during a disaster. Stock up on food that can be stored at room temperature so that you can have a meal close to usual, and prepare for cooking with portable gas stove etc. It is also important to secure a certain amount of food that can be eaten as it is at room temperature.

There is no water coming out of the faucet
※In the case of apartment (depending on the structure)

If tap water is pressurized and supplied to the building using electricity, tap water cannot be pumped up due to a power outage, and water may not come out of the faucet.
In apartment, elevators and other equipment will be stopped during power outages, making it difficult to transport water.

※In addition, let's think about what kind of impact it will have.

When the water stops

When the water supply stops, the following effects can be considered.

Impact of water cutoff
ImpactMeasures
There is no drinking water

Drinking water can be secured at the water station in the event of a disaster. However, in the past disasters, a long line of residents seeking water supply has occurred, and the amount of water that can be carried is limited, so the necessary amount of water must be lined up at the water station many times a day. In some cases, it took a lot of effort to secure it.
Securing drinking water is directly linked to life, so stock at least 9 liters per person (3 liters per person x 3 days) on a daily basis.

I can't flush the toilet

If water is cut off, there will be no water flowing through the toilet. Prepare a toilet pack so that you can use it at home even if the water is cut off.
Stock up on toilet packs for at least 15 times (for 3 days) per person.

I can't wash out

If you don't use water, you will not be able to wash dishes and other dishes. If tableware can be used, cover it with a wrap or plastic bag, remove it after the meal and dispose of it as burning garbage, so that the vessel can be used without polluting it.
Tableware may be broken due to shaking, so let's refer to the program of "making paper tableware (PDF: 2,109KB)".

Don't take a bathIf you don't take a bath, it will be difficult to keep your body clean. Unsanitary conditions can cause stress both physically and mentally, so be sure to have a wet sheet for wiping the body.

※In addition, let's think about what kind of impact it will have.

If the gas stops

Impact of suspension of gas supply
ImpactMeasures
I can't cook

Food is an important factor in keeping you healthy during a disaster. Stock up on food that can be stored at room temperature so that you can have a meal close to usual, and prepare for cooking with portable gas stove etc. It is also important to secure a certain amount of food that can be eaten as it is at room temperature.
※When performing in places where the risk of fire is low, such as camping or barbecue, you can use it outdoors with reference to the program of "Fire Making Experience (PDF: 578KB)".

Heating equipment cannot be used

As a measure against the cold, prepare the portable gas stove so that you can have a warm meal and drink.
If electricity can be used, switch the use of air conditioners etc.

Don't take a bathIf gas is not available, you will not be able to boil water and take a bath. In winter, it will be difficult to take a bath unless hot water comes out, so be sure to have a wet sheet for wiping your body so that you can keep your body clean.

※In addition, let's think about what kind of impact it will have.
