This page introduces appropriate evacuation in the event of an earthquake.

Difference between evacuation sites and shelter

evacuation sites and evacuation centers have different purposes and roles depending on the type of disaster and reasons for evacuation.
To avoid confusion immediately after a disaster, make sure that each and every one understands where to evacuate.

evacuation sites

Immediately after an earthquake, it is a place to evacuate to escape from the danger of building collapse.
The town's disaster prevention organization (such as Neighborhood Association Neighborhood Associations) arbitrarily designates parks and vacant lots in advance as evacuation sites.
If it's dangerous to go to evacuation sites at one point, check your surroundings in a less dangerous place.
At the same time, evacuation sites may be used to perform safety confirmation and rescue operations.

This is a place to evacuate if there is a danger due to the radiant heat and smoke of the fire if the fire spreads and stays on the spot.
Large places where there is a low risk of fire spread and many residents can evacuate, such as the former Fukaya communication zone and the Tozuka Country Club, are designated.
Drinking water and other supplies are not stocked because temporary stays to avoid danger.

Designated shelters (evacuation shelter)

Designated evacuation centers are places where those who cannot continue living at home due to building collapse, etc., live for a certain period of time.
In Yokohama City, municipal schools have been designated as "designated evacuation centers" and are also designated as "a base for collecting and distributing supplies and information to residents" and "a base for rescue operations by the community support" as "evacuation shelter." (For details on evacuation shelter, please see the evacuation shelter page.)
evacuation shelter was established when an earthquake with a seismic intensity of 5 or more was observed at one location in the city. In the case of Izumi Ward, 23 elementary and junior high schools in Seya Ward are designated as evacuation shelter.
※From April 1, 2022, evacuation shelter in the Ryokuen area has been changed to Ryokuen compulsory education School (Ryokuen Gakuen). For details, please refer to "Changes to evacuation shelter in the Ryokuen area (PDF: 324KB)".

Evacuation to evacuation shelter is for those who have lost their homes or those who have difficulty living at home (such as those requiring assistance).
From the perspective of preventing infectious diseases, if your home is safe and you do not need to evacuate to evacuation shelter, improve your home disaster prevention measures on a daily basis so that you do not have to go to evacuation shelter.
※Even if you live at home, you can get information and relief supplies that gather in evacuation shelter by visiting evacuation shelter.

※You can evacuate regardless of whether you are a member of Neighborhood Association Neighborhood Associations.
※Private cars are not allowed to enter evacuation shelter.
※The evacuation shelter will be established and operated with the cooperation of evacuees as well as the evacuation shelter Steering Committee.

Welfare evacuation centers

Persons requiring assistance cannot continue living at home (e.g., elderly people with disabilities, etc.) must first evacuate to evacuation shelter and live with the help of others.
If it is still difficult to live with the support of others in evacuation shelter due to circumstances such as requiring special consideration, we will accept them at welfare shelters (social welfare facilities, etc.).
We cannot evacuate at your own request because we accept at welfare evacuation centers based on the necessity and urgency of the ward office.

Please confirm a list of welfare shelters on the page of "Welfare Evacuation Center".
※Please note that residents are not allowed to evacuate directly.
