Overview

Until 1970, there were warehouses, field yards, heliports, landings, shooting ranges, etc. as destinations of the U.S. Army Storage Bureau, which was a preliminary facility of Yokohama North Dock, but most were returned in February 1971. Was. The rest was used as a field yard and landing site.

September 2, 1945
The former Japanese Navy flight base was requisitioned as a facility for the U.S. Army 508 Communication Repair Corps.
December, 1961
The name was changed to "Tomioka Warehouse Area".
September 23, 1970
The facility was transferred from the U.S. Army to the U.S. Navy.
January 7, 1971
The Japan-US Joint Committee agreed to return a part of the Tomioka Warehouse Area.
February 17, 1971
The above 312,573 square meters of land was returned.
May 29, 1972
The National Property Regional Council has decided on a plan to use the site of the return site.
Ministry of Finance (3.75 hectares of public servant housing)
Kanagawa Prefectural Police (5.65 hectares of riot police training ground)
Yokohama City (Parks and Roads: 23.03 hectares)
March 20, 1975
The city opened the park on the site of the return site as Tomioka General Park.
March 5, 1992
Since timber and other supplies were brought in, we asked the Yokohama Defense Facilities Bureau about the background and purpose of the import, and made an offer not to bring in dangerous goods.
October 30, 1996
At the request of the local Neighborhood Associations, the city requested the Yokohama Defense Facilities Bureau to return or temporarily use it.
October 4, 1998
For the first time, temporary use was recognized as a parking lot for the Southern Market Festival.
October 18, 2004
The Japan-U.S. Joint Committee agreed on the return policy.
May 25, 2009
The above 28,988 square meters of land was returned. As a result, the entire Tomioka warehouse area was returned.
November 17, 2010
We received a report from the government (Yokohama Finance Office, Ministry of Finance) on the final results of the soil contamination survey.
March 31, 2011
A part of the Nozumi area (approximately 650 square meters) was acquired by the city as a site for redevelopment of the Sanitation Research Institute.
July, 2011
We have formulated a basic plan to use the site of the former Tomioka Warehouse district.
March 29, 2012
A part of the Nozumi area (approximately 1,200 square meters) was loaned free of charge from the government as a sewerage management site.
December 1, 2014
The Institute of Health has been opened.
